For most of my adult life, I was a journalist at The Capital Times in Madison, Wis. For a number of years, I served in the leadership of the National Conference of Editorial Writers. Then I was pastor for 10 years at Memorial United Church of Christ in Fitchburg, Wis. and allegedly retired in 2017. I served on the board of managers of the Religion News Service. I chair the advisory board of the Center for Journalism Ethics, serve on the board for JustDane and facilitate clergy support groups. In 2021, I was inducted into the Wisconsin Newspaper Association Hall of Fame. During 2022-23, I am serving as a part-time parish associate at Christ Presbyterian Church in Madison WI. I am married and have grown children scattered all across the country.
